Spoken Word Workshops

Bring the experience of live performance to your classroom, linked with the teaching of writing and performance skills, and watch your students flourish both personally and academically. Spoken Word workshops build off of your existing curriculum and support your students by making poetry come alive.

Teacher Testimonials

Great rapport with students

“Tanya is so vibrant and has a great rapport with students… Tanya’s poetry workshop series serves as a fabulous introduction to my poetry units in ENG4U and EWC4U. Having a performance poet brings a new element/aspect to ‘page poetry.”

-Kim Fahner, Marymount Academy, SCDSB

Professional, inspiring, empowering

“Tanya was excellent with the students – professional, inspiring, vulnerable, empowering… We loved every minute of it!”

Tara Duffy, Silverthorn CI, TDSB

The workshop was accessible to all students!

“Tanya was able to read the students and understand when they needed more time, prompting, examples, etc. The project was accessible for all students, encouraged group skills, presentation skills and used modelling techniques effectively. We’d like Tanya to work here!”

Kelly Anne Lavallee, St. Benedict CSS, SCDSB

Student Testimonials

“I think the most valuable part of the entire process was the sheer honesty and vulnerability displayed by everyone. People were able to be completely open and honest without fear or judgment from others.”

 -Wendel

“When we started I was convinced that I had nothing of interest to say and that I wasn’t good at writing and expressing my feelings. By the end that totally changed and I was really happy that I took a risk and and shared with everyone in the class. Because of spoken word and your great teaching, I had the courage to do this and that’s something I’ll remember and carry with me the rest of my life.”

– Aynsley

“After your workshop, It was clear I was hooked on spoken word. Many days I came home after school and spent hours on you tube watching this amazing new art form you introduced me to. I also began writing every single day whether it was a haiku or working on a lengthier poem. I even attended one of the youth slams in Toronto where I was actually chosen to be a judge which is incredibly challenging.“
